Eksistensi Nilai Budaya Lokal dalam Upacara Kasada dan Perannya terhadap Pelestarian Kebudayaan Suku Tengger di Desa Ngadisari
Abstract
The Kasada Ceremony is a sacred annual tradition of the Tenggerese community held on the 1st of the Kasada month according to the traditional Tengger Hindu calendar. The ceremony involves offering sacrifices into the crater of Mount Bromo as an act of devotion to Sang Hyang Widhi and as a tribute to their ancestors, particularly Roro Anteng and Joko Seger. This study aims to describe the local cultural values embodied in the Kasada Ceremony and to explore the community’s efforts to preserve it amidst modernization. The research employs a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach to uncover the meaning and local wisdom embedded within the Tenggerese culture. The findings reveal that the Kasada Ceremony not only carries deep spiritual significance but also serves as a medium for transmitting cultural values such as respect for ancestors, adherence to customary laws, social harmony and unity, and the development of cultural tourism. These values represent the cultural identity of the Tenggerese people and serve as a foundation for sustaining their traditional heritage in the era of globalization.
